How My Parents Have Raised Greatly Impacted My Way Of...

Growing up in Monterey where both my parents also were raised has greatly impacted my way of thinking. My parents have many friends coming from diverse backgrounds. As young as I can remember I have been attending Reggae/music festivals being around many of the individuals with the dreadlock hairstyle, most were not Rasta but did do similar things as they practice. I have seen many different groups with dreadlocks with different skin colors. When I was 7 there was a Bob Marley tribute concert in a park in Monterey and that is when I fell in love with the idea and look of dreadlocks. Observing everyone around me, I noticed a person s hair wrapped about three times touching the floor still and I could not stop staring. I remember my uncle, who is younger than I wearing dreadlocks since he had hair. In my 18 years I have seen many different individuals with the dreadlocks making and debunking stereotypes and misconceptions towards them. In an interview with actress, singer, dancer, model, Zendaya Coleman, by MTV after having a comment made about her hair style on the red carpet of the oscars in 2015. Coleman talks about her response to what was said and why she responded in the manner she did. Giuliana Rancic of the show Fashion Police was doing her job and making comments about the outfits of the night and made an inappropriate and stereotypical remark that because Zendaya wore hair in dreadlocks that she appears to smell of patchouli oil and marijuana.
